Quack ‘n’ Splash, is a playful twist on the iconic rubber duck, inspired by the Strong Museum of Play, Toy Hall of Fame. Our team altered the beloved rubber duck to create unique branding and packaging that enhances the play experience. The rubber duck is simple, with familiar design that make it perfect for reimagining in new ways. By updating this iconic toy into and interactive water, we can keep its playful charm while adding fresh, exciting elements through.
For this project I worked with Louis Drum, Alena Arthur, and Aidan Horvath.
Branding
For the logo, we wanted to create a playful and fluid logo that spoke to the brands quirky and energetic qualities. The use of majuscules and minuscules amplify the whimsical nature of the brand while the differing angles of letters reflect the fluidity and movement of water.
Designed by Samantha Morgan
For the branding we drew from mid century modern design styles since the rubber duck was popularized during this time. From here we created a color pallet centered around blues to represent the water aspect of the duck and flat imagery that was used to create a pattern utilized throughout branded pieces. The imagery created features ducks, lilly pads, and mid century star bursts.

Product Rendering
The duck was 3D rendered in Fusion and was based off the duck from the world's largest rubber duck challenge. It was then printed, sanded, and painted the duck.

Packaging Structure
When creating the packaging structure, we decided to include a cutout and interlocking top closure with the shape of ducks. It was very important to us that the box reflected the shape and feel of the brand and continue the fun whimsical qualities that are seen in the branding. On the final version, you can see there is a custom diecut window that sets the scene for the duck packaged.
For the interior, it was important for the duck to be secure within the box. Custom diecuts were made to hold both the top and bottom of the duck.
Here are preliminary and updated versions of the packaging interior and exterior structure. Once finalized, designs and branding are applied.

Packaging Design
Within the packaging design we chose to create a seamless scene across all side panels of the box. The back side panel features what's included, a bit about Quack 'n' Splash, and instructions on how to set up the game included inside! The left side panel shows an illustrated view of what playing with this toy looks like. The front panel has a large window that let the viewer see the product they are purchasing. And the right side panel features a character introduction to the duck inside. There are 4 variations of the package, each with a different duck inside, Mallory, Bailey, Billy, and Howie!
The insert features a clean pattern, top and bottom reflections of the exterior package, and game pieces on one side. On the other side there is the interactive game get splashing and the back side of the game pieces.

Interactive Game
The game get splashin' is a great way for the user to physically interact with their duck water activity. after rolling the dice, the individual will move their duck. If they land on a whirlpool, move 2 spaces forward. If they land on a lilypad, move 1 space backward. If they land on a stick, move 2 spaces backward. If they land on a rock, move 3 spaces backward. If the player rolls “splash”, they get to go splash around with Howie until their next turn. The first player to reach Mother Goose wins the game!

Final Renders
Utilizing all the components of Quack 'n' Splash, 3D Renders were created to showcase the product. The bottom photo showcased all components laid out including the exterior box, the insert, the small box for holding game pieces, Howie the duck sprinkler, and the stake that connects Howie to the ground and hose.
