Every spring, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) hosts a festival called Imagine RIT which showcases projects and research from the year. A poster design contest is always held for the festival. This poster is my submission for the 2023 Imagine RIT Festival.
The tagline of this event is "Experience the Creativity." While creating my concept for this poser, I kept the tagline in mind as well as the accessibility of Imagine RIT. This festival is open to the public and advertised for all ages. I loved the idea of creating a board game of RIT because it leads the viewer through important and recognizable landmarks of the RIT campus.
Throughout the creation of this poster, there were many changes that drastically altered the look and interpretation of this design. One thing I really struggled with was finding a color scheme that reflected the whimsical poster I wanted to create. The hope was that this poster would remind viewers of their childhood and help them embrace their creative spirit. I also originally wanted to create a brick boarder to represent the unofficial name of RIT (Brick City), but it made the poster feel confined. Instead I opted to add the brick detail into the path of the game. This incorporated the original idea in a way that enhanced the design instead of harming it. I am really pleased with how this design turned out. It ended up looking both similar and different, in a good way, to my original design.
