For this project I was tasked with creating multiple graphic translations of a black buck antelope. These graphics were going to be used on mockups such as wine bottles. The Blackbuck Antelope is native to India and Pakistan and has distinct facial colorings and swirling horns. These two features allowed me to create interesting figure/ground relationships and I really enjoyed seeing how these changed based on the perspective of the animal. Focusing on closure proximity and figure ground relationships I created six variations of the black buck antelope. The animal allowed for drastic differences between iterations as it has striking facial and underbelly color differences as well as swirling horns.
I wanted to capture many different styles and perceptions of the animal. There are some very geometric interpretations as well as some that have more fluidity and irregularity. I also found it very interesting how one design could appear docile or aggressive depending on if it was inverted or not.
